  BIOGRAPHY:
Born in 1953 to Russian/Ukrainian parents who emigrated to the United States after World War II, I grew up in New York City/New Jersey. After graduating from Manhattan University with a B.S. in Biology in 1975, I moved to Vermont and received a Ph.D. in Animal Sciences from the University of Vermont (1981). Following a postdoc at Tufts Medical School in Boston, I spent almost forty years on the faculty of the University of Vermont Larner College of Medicine, teaching medical, graduate, and undergraduate students, and conducting research on women's health.
I love teaching and am honored to have taught more than 14,000 medical, graduate, and undergraduate students during my academic career, some of whom have remained lifelong friends.
Most of my writing during the UVM years was scientific (authored/co-authored >100 papers, edited three books, and wrote a textbook titled
Human Pregnancy that was published by Wylie).

After retiring, I wrote a novel (Caveat, Onion River Press) and am currently working on a number of short stories and essays. Two essays - Is Everybody In?, a look at Jim Morrison's poetry, and The Twilight of a Star: Remembering Mr. Dean Martin - are available on Kindle and two recent political commentaries (The Trump Paradox and The War in Ukraine) can be accessed on the Essays page of this website.
Outside of writing, my favorite hobby is photography, and you can link to a photo gallery via the Photographs tab, where there is also a collection of photographs of Paris to accompany CAVEAT.

My wife and I moved from Vermont to Bellingham, Washington in October of 2018 to be closer to our grandchildren, daughter, and son-in-law.
            Thank you for your interest!
